Angela Pappas of EXP Realty Shares her wisdom on how to get the most value when selling your home
Advocating for seniors has been a mission of My Activity Resources from the beginning. I had the chance to sit down with the very kind and very knowledgeable Angela Pappas.
As many of you know, I am a firm believer that assisted living and independent living communities have really upped their game and have so much to offer seniors. But one huge task at hand for many, is putting their homes up for sale. It is not only a difficult decision, it can be an emotional one as well.
Angela has shared with me the best tips and tricks for getting the best value for your home and how to ensure an easy process.
Q) When would you say is the best time for someone to sell their home ?
A) I know saying "now" sounds like an obvious answer when asking an agent this question, but for people in retirement, the best time to sell is when you are emotionally ready. They say you shouldn't time the stock market, you also shouldn't try to time the real estate market.
Remember, most of your homes equity is already available, and likely, you've already benefitted from a booming housing market.
What you should consider, is that with interest rates rising, the rise in home prices may settle down. So if you have been considering moving into a retirement community, and are ready to make the leap, now is a great time.
Q) What are the important things to look for in a realtor if you are a senior ?
A) For anyone selling their home, it's important to work with someone who they can trust to get them the best possible value for their home. Someone willing to do the leg work. Someone who understands the importance of selling quickly, versus getting a good price. An agent who can coordinate many of the concerns seniors face. From moving furniture, to helping you prepare your home for open houses, such as staging recommendations to make your home more attractive for buyers. Lastly, an agent who has experience with clients selling their homes to transition to senior communities. Additionally, like with any agent, you want someone who will clearly explain their strategy for selling your home and ensuring you get the best possible value.
Q) I know moving is a huge concern, especially for seniors who may not have family in the area to help them. Do you have any suggestions on how to make this process easier?
A) There are many moving companies who offer special discounts for seniors. I'm sure calling a local company, they would be happy to share their offers. You can also ask the community you are moving into, if they offer any services or have a trusted company they can suggest.
Q) Lastly, where can potential sellers go to find an agent ?
A) I am happy to assist any potential sellers in the central New Jersey area. https://cnj.exprealty.com/agents/67369/Scott+%26+Angela+Pappasrecommendation
Otherwise, suggestions from family and friends is a good place to start. Ask them about their experience and see if that individual realtor would be a good match. You can always contact EXP Realty to be connected with a trusted and experienced agent in your area.
